The above winners will each receive a Certificate of Distinction and a Book Prize during the NUS Geography Challenge 2009 Grand Finals Prize Presentation Ceremony to be held on the 4th April 2009.

The Organizing Committee would also like to congratulate the Top 30 Schools which qualified for Round 2 of the Challenge, as well as to thank all participating schools for their keen participation. A Certificate of Participation will be send to all participants via post by late April/May.

We would like to take this opportunity to extend our most sincere appreciation for your support in taking part in NUS Geography Challenge 2009. Schools that did not qualify for the semi finals are welcomed to partake in the Geo-Ad component in which all entries will be judged on an equal basis. These top 30 schools will proceed to the semi finals of the NUS Geography Challenge 2009, where they will compete in the Geo-Ad (40%) and Geo-Trail (60%) components.

A package containing documents such as detailed rules and regulations of Geo-Ad and indemnity forms, will be sent by 4th March 2009 (WEDNESDAY) via email to the teacher-in-charge with more details on the subsequent components. Please check to ensure that you have received the package.

Theme for GC 09: HeritaGEography, Retracing Singapore

Below are the details for Geography Challenge 2009:

Preliminary Round
Round 1: 28th February 2009 Saturday, 0800H-1300H
Venue: NUS, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, LT11, 12 and 13.

What would be tested??
Individual MCQ Quiz and Team Application Question

Note: Top 30 qualified schools will proceed to the semi finals consisting of Geo-Ad and Geo-Trail

Round 2 : 2nd March 09 – 23rd March 09 , Geo-Ad Competition

This is a compulsory component for semi-finalist (Top 30 schools). The weightage is 40% and teams will be provided with a detailed list of rules and regulations for the Geo-Ad video competition upon qualifying for Round 2.

*** Note:Geo-Ad Category is open to all registered schools too!!!

Submission of short video clip due on 20th March 2009.

4th April 2009, Saturday, 0800H – 1900H
Venue for Grand Finals – NUS, FASS, LT13

Highlights on that day:

1) Geo-Trail (For semi finalists): Involves teams embarking on a trail of adventure to various parts of Singapore. Teams will set off from NUS at the beginning of the trail and must return to the end point (NUS) within stipulated time. Students would need to apply geographical concepts and map interpretation skills in order to clear a station. (Weightage: 60%)

2) Geo-Ad Screening for the top 5 Geo-Ad videos

3) Grand Finals (Top 3 Overall teams):The top 3 teams with the highest scores from Geo-Ad and Geo-Trail will vie for the overall winning team through 3 rounds of on-the-spot quizzes. These 3 rounds are: Group Collaboration, Individual Round and Speed Round.
